Steampunk South of the Border

You’ll come for the absurd band name, but you’ll stay for the catchy tunes. JotDog is a Mexican band formed by María Barracuda and Jorge “La Chiquis” Amaro.

Their sound has been described as “sinister pop” and while it certainly has an electronic feel, the duo have been working on developing a steampunk look to match their irreverent lyrics.

“We want to experiment with genres,” says Barracuda. And Amaro adds; “In Mexico you hear Los Tigres del Norte, Lady Gaga, Iron Maiden … all at the same time. It’s like a musical orgy and we have all these influences because we grew up with that. ”

JotDog’s debut album was released in 2009, earning a nomination at the Latin Grammy Awards. Here’s to musical cross-pollination at its fines.
