Imagine you are the proud owner of a small, primitive village that you hope to turn one day into a thriving metropolitan civilization – hopefully one which has the power to take over the world, build a giant Utopia, or perhaps win the space race to colonize a nearby planet.
Such, anyway, are the possible ways in which to win Sid Meier’s Civilization V, a turn-based strategy video game for between two and six players, predicated on the best way to finally rule the world mwa ha ha … ahem. Anyway, Gods & Kings, the first official expansion pack for Civilization V, due out this June 19 in North America and June 22 internationally, will change the name of the game slightly.
The expansion, which will include 27 new units, 13 new buildings, 9 new wonders, and 9 new playable civilizations, will also feature 3 new possible scenarios: Fall of Rome, Into the Renaissance, and Empire of the Smoky Skies. The last is heavily steampunk-inspired, and should give us that nice Victorian twist we’re always looking for.
